Development of machinery for industry is one of our strengths, and following our ‘Primecut r’ round knife development is typical of our approach in working with our customers.
Firstly, identifying an improvement opportunity of an operation or process within an industry that can be made better, faster, or safer. This may also result in an operation that reduces operator fatigue or repetitive strain injuries.
The Primecut knife project pay back is measured in improvements to output, both by reduction of waste giving an improved yield, and a cleaner cut face resulting in improved visual and shelf life characteristics.
A prototype knife was build and tested, with a number of options and styles trialled by skilled operators, whose input resulted in different methods of construction and layout to the knife and its operation.
These changes were made to improve the operation and flexibility of the round knife unit, leading to the current model, which has twin outfeed conveyors with belts from Intralox, with a clean-in-place wash system.
The Freund round knife is mounted on a substantial frame, and is fitted with a 750 mm diameter rotating blade. The roller topped cutting carriage running under this blade, is mounted on linear bearings for smooth operation. The forward and reverse motion is pneumatically driven, and controlled by a knee pad, allowing the operator to concentrate on product positioning and control, without the physical requirements of feeding the carcase through the cutting process. Cuts are carried away on the twin outfeed conveyors to the next operation.

Currently our ‘Primecut r’ knives are integrated into a number of boning room operations, and we offer full installation and commissioning of these units.
